Bu blogda tükenmez kalemlere de rollerball kalemlere de çok yer vermediğimin farkındayım. İlerleyen günlerde bu açığı biraz olsun kapatmak istiyorum ama şimdi akıllara takılan sorulardan bir tanesini yanıtlamaya çalışacağım.

Tükenmez kalem ve rollerball (Türkçesi nedir emin değilim) arasındaki fark nedir sorusuna bakalım. Tükenmez kalem ve rollerball kalemlerin çalışma prensibi hemen hemen aynıdır. Bir yuva içerisinde bulunan top, biz kalemi kağıt üzerinde hareket ettirdikçe kayar ve arkasındaki mürekkebi (tabi ki klasik anlamda dolmakalem mürekkebi değil bu) kağıda tabir-i caizse bulaştırır.

(Tükenmez kalem / Ballpoint)

Tükenmez kalemlerdeki mürekkep, macun kıvamında iken, rollerball kalemlerde daha sıvı yapıdadır. Bu yüzden tükenmez kalem daha sert yazarken, rollerball kalemler daha akıcı ve yumuşak yazarlar.

I know, I don't represent enough ballpoint pens or rollerballs in this blog. I want to close the gap on the following days. But now, I will try to answer one of the questions in mind.

Let's see the question: What is the difference between ballpoint and rollerball pens? Actually the working principle is nearly the same for both pens. There is a tiny ball in ball-housing where the ball slides as we move the pen and the ink behind the ball leaves traces on the paper so to say.

However, while the ballpoint pens' ink is thick as a paste, rollerball pens' ink is much more liquid. Therefore, while ballpoints are a bit stiffer while writing, rollerball pens glide easily

Bugün size çok sık rastlayamayacağınız bir dolmakalemi tanıtmak istiyorum. Ankara'daki eski bir kırtasiyede görene kadar, ben de böyle bir markadan ve bu güzel kalemden haberdar değildim. 70'ler civarında üretildiğini tahmin ettiğim bu kalem, içinde kullanma klavuzu, beş kartuşu, bir adet dönüştücüsü (kutuda boş görünen yerde dönüştürücüsü mevcuttu) ile birlikte şık bir kutu içerisinde geliyor.

Adını, en ilkel yazım aracı olan tüy kalemlerden alan bu marka, klipsini de tüy şeklinde yaparak kaleme oldukça zarif bir dokunuşta bulunmuş. Ayrıca klipsteki ince işçiliğe de dikkatinizi çekerim.

Kalem oldukça zarif, ince hatta belki çokca feminen. Ancak bu benim kalemi sedefli beyaz olarak tercih etmemden de kaynaklanmış olabilir. Lacivert ve siyahında bu kadar feminen durmadığını rahatlıkla söyleyebilirim.

Kalemin üzerindeki uç altın kaplama ve Cross Century I'in ucuna epeyce benziyor. Bu kaleme yakışan, gövdesiyle uyumlu bir uç. Kapak üzerinde de, hangi materyalden olduğunu bilmediğim şık bir tac mücevheri bulunuyor.

Aradan geçen bunca yıla rağmen, kalem kutudan çıktığı haliyle sorunsuz, sıkıntısız, güzel bir yazım deneyimi sağlıyor. Ben kendisini sevdim, siz nasıl buldunuz?

Today I would like to introduce a unique fountain pen which you cannot come across every day. I was not aware of this brand either, until I saw it in a very old stationery shop in Ankara. The pen which I guess produced around 70's, comes in a very classy grey box with a manual flier, 5 cartridges and a converter (the empty nest on the box belongs to converter).

The brand named after our very primitive writing tool, quills touches the clips with elegance by making it in the shape of a quill. And I would like to draw your attention to the fine craftsmen in the clips.

This fountain pen is very graceful, elegant and maybe we can say very feminine. However, this is most probably because I get it in pearl white. I can easily say it doesn't look feminine in black or dark navy options.

Nib on the pen is gold-plated and it is quite similar to Cross Century I. I think is well suited with this slim pen and its fashion. And there is a top-jewel on the cap but unfortunately I don't know what is the material for that.

After all those years, this pen is working right out of the box and providing a good writing experience. I liked it, what do you think?

Herkesin geçmiş bayramı kutlu olsun. Ben de fırsattan istifade kaçınca geçen haftayı Pazar Postası yapmadan bitirdik. Bayramda bir arkadaşımın ailesinin yazlığına gittik bir kaç arkadaş. Ben de ufak bir hediye götürmek istediğim için bu minik suluboyayı yapıp çerçeveledim.

Tatilimi, kelimenin kökeninde olduğu gibi büyük bir atalet içerisinde, çoğunlukla bu manzaraya bakarak geçirdim.

Eteklerimi sürüyerek eski sokakları arşınladım.

Elbette elimin altında defter, dolmakalem, kitap ve hatta kindle, dehidrasyona karşı bol miktarda su ve güneş koruması vardı.

Bol miktarda yazmış olmamı saymazsak, bu iki haftada, Ali İhsan Yitik'in "Hint Kökenli Dinlerde Karma İnancının Tenasüh İnancı ile İlişkisi" kitabını okudum. Çok beğendiğimi söyleyemeyeceğim. Diğer bir kitap da ünlü Boşnak yazar Meşa Selimoviç'in Derviş ve Ölüm'ü idi. Sanki iki parçaya bölünmüş bir kitap. Sanki iki parçası iki ayrı halet-i ruhiyede yazılmış gibiydi. Güzel bir kitap. Diğer bir kitap ise normalde Ezoterik alandaki harika inceleme kitapları ile tanınan Mircea Eliade'nin öykü kitabı olan Yaşlı Adam ve Bürokratlar'dı. Oldukça hoş, çok güzel bir üslupla kaleme alınmış. Bunun dışında Jerzy Kosinski'nin Boyalı Kuş'unu ve James Bowen'in Sokak Kedisi Bob'unu okudum. Kitaplar benim olmadığından fotoğrafta yoklar. Boyalı Kuş yer yer oldukça grafik tasvirlere girse de çok güzel bir kitap. Sokak Kedisi Bob ise yarı otobiyagrafik, kedi severlerin seveceği tarzda, bir kaç saatte okunup bitirilebilir.

Şimdi mürekkeplere, dolmakalemlere ve kırtasiye yazılarına kaldığımız yerden devam.

Hi,

Since it was Eid el-Fitr in Turkey, I had a small holiday (a week long) and I couldn't make Sunday post last week. We went to the summer house of a friend's family so I wanted to prepare a gift for them and make this simple water color painting and put it in a frame.

I spend my holiday in a "dolce far niente" mood, mostly gazing upon this view.

I paced through old alleys...

Of course I had a fountain pen, a notebook, book and even Kindle, water against dehydration and sun protection ready to hand.

Except excessively writing in recent weeks, I read a book about on Karma and Reincarnation which I didn't enjoyed much. There were also Death and the Dervish from Mesa Selimovic the famous Bosnian writer. The book aparted into two in manner like it was written by different authors at all. Insteresting! But it is quite nice. Another book is from Mircae Eliade who is known for esoteric academic books. This is a short story book named The Old Man and the Bureaucrats which was great. Other than those seen on the photo, I also read Jerzy Kosinski's The Painted Bird and A Street Cat Named Bob from James Bowen. The Painted Bird was a bit graphic in some parts yet a great book. A Street Cat Named Bob was a semi-autobiographic light book which you can finish in hours.

Now, it is time to go back to ink, fountain pens and stationery reviews.

Scrikss 419, Scrikss markasının en efsanevi dolmakalemlerinden bir tanesi. Halen websitelerinde görünse de, bildiğim kadarıyla bu kalem artık üretilmiyor. Ben de kendim favorilerimden biri olan 419'u sizlere tanıtmak istiyorum bugün.

Ben açıkçası piston dolum sistemli dolmakalem seviyorum. Ayrıca hafif, küçük-orta boyutlarda olan dolmakalemleri tercih ediyorum. Scrikss 419, bu özelliklerin tümünü haiz. Bunun yanısıra, ömür boyu garanti de cabası.

Scrikss'in ucunda, ucun boyutuna dair herhangi bir işaret mevcut değil. Ancak bu durum eski kalemler için geçerli. Scrikss'in yeni kalemlerinde böyle bir durum yok ama Medium'dan başka bir uca da rastlamış değilim. Yine de Scrikss 419'un ucuna bakacak olursak, aşağıdaki fotoğraftan da anlaşılacağı üzere M-F arası hatta belki inceye daha yakın bir ucu var.

Benim elimden şimdiye kadar 3 adet Scrikss 419 geçti. Bunların hepsinin ucu da oldukça iyi nitelikteydi. Herhangi bir sorun ya da sıkıntı yaşamadım. Yukarıdaki yazı örneğinden göreceğiniz gibi, atlama (skipping) yapmayan, ıslak-kuru arası oldukça iyi yazan ve benim kıvrımlı el yazıma uyum sağlayabilen bir kalem, Scrikss 419.

Şimdi gelelim bu kalemin en tartışmalı konusuna, yani Pelikan M200 ile olan benzerliğine. Kıyaslamak amacıyla fotoğrafta sırasıyla Pelikan M200, Scrikss 419 ve Pelikan M150'ye yer verdim. Doğrusu bu üç kalem de birbirine çok benziyor. Göreceğiniz gibi, Scrikss 419 boyut olarak bu iki kalemin tam arasında bir noktaya denk geliyor. Ama bence en önemli farkları, Scrikss lehine mürekkep penceresinin daha şeffaf olması ve fiyatı iken; Pelikanlar lehine uç çeşitliliği ve uçların değiştirilebilmesi.

Scrikss artık bu kalemi üretmediği için fiyat konusu fazlasıyla çeşitliliğe tabi. Eski bir kırtasiyede 20-30 lira arası fiyata bulunabiliyorken, başka bir kırtasiyede 80-100 lira arasındaki etiketlerle satışa sunulabiliyor. Ancak gerçekten eski kırtasiyeleri karıştırmaya değebilecek güzellikte bir kalem. Bence, Scrikss bu kalemi yeniden üretmeye de başlayabilir. Açıkçası bunu bekleyen çok fazla kişi olduğunu ben bizzat biliyorum.

Scrikss 419 is one of the most legendary fountain pens of Scrikss. Even though it is still referred on their website, as far as I know, it is not produced anymore. So, today I would like to introduce you with Scrikss.

Frankly, I like piston filler fountain pens. Besides, I prefer fountain pens in small-mid size bodies. Scrikss 419 has all those qualities. Moreover, Scrikss offers a life-time warranty which is quite a good asset.

There is no mark indicating the nib width on Scrikss' nib. However, this situation is for previous pens of Scrikss. For the new pens they put the nib width although I haven't seen any nib other than a Medium. Neverthless, for Scrikss 419 you can determine the nib as M-F which is more close to finer side.

I have had 3 Scrikss 419 fountain pens so far. All the nibs were quite good. I did not experienced any trouble or problem with them. As you may see from the writing sample Scrikss 419 is a good pen with no skipping, even matching with my curvy handwriting, in a medium wetness just among wet and dry character.

And now, it is time for the most debatable issue over this fountain pen; resemblance with Pelikan M200. In order to make a comparison there are Pelikan M200, Scrikss 419 and Pelikan M150 in the photo. Frankly, those three pens are quite alike. As you can see, in size manner, Scrikss 419 is just between those two. However I think the main difference is more transparent ink window and price on behalf of Scrikss and nib size variety and swapping on behalf of Pelikan's.

Since Scrikss is not producing this pen anymore, price is quite various. While you can find it from 10-15 EUR in an old stationery store, it might also be offered with 40-50 EUR price tags. However, it is such a nice pen that worth digging old stores. In my humble opinion, Scrikss should start producing it again and I know a lot of people who are waiting for this very moment.

Bugün Faber-Castell'in yeni çıkardığı defterle karşınızdayım. Bu defteri Ankara'da Ulus'ta bir kırtasiyeden almıştım. Ancak İstanbul'da da eve dönüş yolumun üzerindeki kırtasiyelerden birinde gördüm. Faber-Castell'in dağıtım ağının çok iyi olması nedeniyle tüm piyasada kolaylıkla bulunan bir defter olacağına şüphe yok.

Doğrusu, Faber-Castell'in ve tabi Graf von Faber'in dolmakalem de ürettiğini bildiğimden, defteri alırken oldukça umutluydum. Denemek üzere elimde halihazırda mevcut mürekkepli kalemlerimi kullandım. Fine uçlu bir Lamy Safari, Medium uçlu olmasına rağmen Fine uçlu sayılabilecek bir Pilot 78G, Italik Pilot 78G ve aslında o gün normalde yazdığından çok daha kuru yazan Uniball Signo.

Maalesef, sonuç beklediğim gibi değildi. Diamine Syrah ve Diamine Teal arkaya geçtiği gibi, Sailor Sky-High ve Uniball Signo da arka sayfada yoğun gölgeleme yaptı. Defteri tükenmez kalemle kullanırken dahi, arka sayfaya yazmanın imkanı yok gibi görünüyor...

Defterin derli toplu olması için bir lastiği ve arkasında kartvizitleri, ekstra kağıtları vs. koymak bir gözü var ama körüksüz olduğu için bu göz pek işe yaramıyor. Kapakta renk seçenekleri mevcut. Benim aldığım yerde çizgili ve çizgisiz olarak iki çeşit vardı. Fiyatı 9,5 TL.

Today I am here with Faber-Castell's new notebook. I bought this one from a stationery store in Ankara. However, I also came across with it in a small stationery shop in Istanbul on my way home. I guess they penetrated the market very swiftly due to their distribution network on stationery products.

Frankly, I was very expectant while I was getting this notebook since Faber-Castell and Graf von Faber is producing fountain pens. I used my currently inked pens to test the notebook which are a Fine Lamy Safari, a Medium Pilot 78G which can be deemed as a fine nib, Italic Pilot 78G and Uniball Signo which wrote very dry that day.

Unfortunately things didn't go as expected. Diamine Syrah and Diamine Teal made bleed-through horribly and Sailor Sky-High and Uniball signo caused show-through. It seems that even with ballpoint pens, it is hard to use the both side of the pages.

There is an elastic rubber band around the notebook and also a small case to put business cards and other extra papers. However, it doesn't work well since it is not a folding case. There are color choices for cover. Where I got it, the notebook was offered in blank and ruled versions. It is 9,5 TL (app 4 EUR)

And a few days ago, a friend of mine from Germany, after reading all my blog, noticed also that I don't have a Faber-Castell fountain pen. So she gave me one as a present! Haftanın son gününü şarap gibi güzel bir mürekkebe ayırmak istedim. Adını bir üzüm cinsi olan Şiraz'dan alan Diamine Syrah, şarabın o eşşsiz rengini kağıda dökmeye and içmiş sanki. Ben uzunca bir süre bu mürekkebin kıyısında köşesinde dolandıktan sonra, kendimi Diamine Syrah'ı sepete eklerken buldum. Ama inanın pişman olmadım bu alışverişten.

Diamine Syrah, oldukça güzel renk veren, yumuşak ve özellikle fotokopi kağıdında hızlı kuruyan bir mürekkep. Bu açıdan solaklar için alternatif olabilir. Islak kalemlerde az biraz kırçıllanmaya eğilimli olsa da, F ve M uçlarda herhangi bir sıkıntı yaşatmıyor. Ben bu mürekkebi özellikle krem rengi, fildişi kağıtlarda seviyorum.

Hi,

I would like to reserve the last working day of the week for a wine-like ink . Syrah's name comes from a type of grape also known as Shiraz and believe me this inks aims to spill a bit of wine to the paper. After I hesitated to acquire this ink, I finally cought myself adding this ink to the shopping basket. And I don't regret it.

Diamine Syrah is a highly saturated, lubricated and fast-drying ink especially on photocopy paper. Therefore it can be an alternative for left-handed. Even though it has a little tendency to feather with wet pens, I haven't experienced any problems on F and M nibs. But I particularly like this ink on cream / ivory papers.

Bu hafta dostlardan gelen hediyelerle dolup taştım desem yeridir. Taa Vietnamlar'dan taşınmış bu Buddha'nın eli şeklindeki mumluk (Sinan'ım ve Duygum <3), Ekşi Duyuru'dan gelen Moleskine Star Wars Ajandam (Sinan'a ve Can'a teşekkürler) ve blogumu alt üst edip Faber Castell kalemim olmadığını çözen, bu da yetmezmiş gibi ucu da Broad sevdiğimi fark eden biricik arkadaşımdan dolmakalem ve yanında muhteşem bir defter (Jale<3) Gerçekten etrafımda harika insanlar olduğu için çok şanslıyım.

Yine mürekkeplerin revnakları ile uğraştım. Hayran kaldım, sizler için çekmeye çalıştım.

Son zamanların en eğlenceli düğünlerinden birine gittim. Bir ömür böyle mutlu olsunlar umarım!

Bu hafta yarım kitaplarımın hiçbirini bitiremedim. Ama bol miktarda yazdım. Sayılır mı?

This week I can say I am fully spoiled by gifts from my friends. A Budha's hand shaped candle carried all the way from Vietnam (thanks to my Sinan and Duygu), Moleskine Star Wars Agenda from a website which I used to moderate (thanks to Sinan and Can) and a Faber-Castell fountain pen and a great notebook from a friend who read through all my blog just to find out which pen I am missing and which nib size I prefer (Jale <3). I am really lucky to have such great friends around.

I dealt with the sheen of the inks. I am an admirer of sheen so I am trying to capture it for you.

I have been to the one of the most amuzing wedding parties lately. I wish them a nice and fruity life!

I couldn't finish any of my ongoing books but I wrote a lot, does that count?

Öncelikle uzun zamandır bu postu bekleyen herkese sabrından ötürü teşekkür ederim. Yukarıdaki muhteşem Pelikan ailesi Turgay bey'in çabaları sayesinde bir araya geldi. Soldan ilk dört kalem, M100, M150, M200 ve M400 bana ait. M450 (sırf göz zevki için orada aslında), M600, M800 ve M1000 ise Turgay Bey'in kalemleri.

Yukarıdaki yamuk tablo için özür diliyorum. Maalesef, yazıcının azizliğine uğradım :) İlk tabloda kalemlerin mürekkepsiz ağırlıkları ölçüldü. Gördüğünüz gibi oldukça düzenli şekilde en büyük boy kalemden, en küçük boy kaleme doğru ağırlık azalıyor. M450'yi istisnai olduğundan listeye dahil etmedim. Uzunluk ise, sırasıyla; kapak kapalıyken, kapaksız ve kapak kalemin üstüne takılmışken ölçüldü. Yine benzer bir tutarlılık söz konusu. Sadece M100 bu düzene istisna getirdi...

Eğer elinizde bir Pelikan varsa, bu tabloya bakarak almak istediğiniz başka bir Pelikan modelinin boyutunu, elinizde nasıl duracağını az çok kestirebilirsiniz. Umarım faydalı olmuştur.

First of all I would like to thank who waited patiently for this post for their endless patience. This glamorous Pelikan fountain pen family gathered with Mr. Turgay's efforts. The first four from the left, M100, M150, M200, M400 belongs to me. M450 (placed just as an eye candy), M600, M800 and M1000 belongs to Mr. Turgay.

Sorry for this inclined table. I fall victim to our printer :) In the first table I measured the weight of the pens while they are un-inked. As you can see it goes down from the biggest pen to the smallest consistently. I did not add M450 since it is an irregular pen. Size is measured with, cap closed, w/o cap and while cap posted. Again there is the same consistency except M100...

If you have a Pelikan pen already, you can guess the size and how it look on your hand with checking from this chart. I hope it helps.

Bu hafta Sunday Post yapmadığım için haftayı şöyle gözümüzü, gönlümüzü açacak bir kalemle açmak istedim. Pelikan Toledo M900 ile... Bu kalem de Turgay Bey'in özel koleksiyonundan bloga konuk oldu. Bu blogu büyük bir arşive dönüştürdüğü için kendisine ne kadar teşekkür etsek az.

Toledo, 18 ayar altından veya gümüşün elde işlenmesi ile üretilen özel bir dolmakalem. Yüksek miktarda işçilik gerektiğinden ayda yalnızca 200 adet üretilebiliyor. Aslında üretim tekniğinin atası, binlerce yıllık bir gelenekten gelen Şam çelik işlemeciliği. Bu işleme tekniği, Araplarla birlikte İspanya'ya taşınıyor ve kalemimiz adını İspanya'nın Toledo kentinden alıyor.

Kalemin üzerindeki detaylardan o ince işçiliği yakalamak ve takdir etmek mümkün.

Pelikan Toledo, şanına ve üzerindeki işçiliğe yakışır şekilde büyük ve güzel bir kutuda geliyor. Aslında Pelikan'ın diğer kalemleri için de böyle güzel kutular beklediğimizi söylemeliyim.

Toledo'nun ucu 18 ayar altından. Bu kalemin üzerindeki uç ise Oblique Medium.

Yazımı oldukça keyifli, ucu diğer Pelikan'larda olduğu gibi yumuşak ve akıcı. Ancak üzerindeki işlemeler dolayısıyla biraz ağır bir kalem. Neredeyse 40 gramlık ağırlığı ile elinizde varlığını hissettiriyor bir süre sonra. Bu sanat eseri kalemin fiyatı ise (Amazon ve E-bay'de) 1400 USD civarında.

Hi,

Since I couldn't make Sunday Post this week, I wanted to start the week with an eye-cand fountain pen; Pelikan Toledo M900. This pen is also from Mr. Turgay's personal collection. I really wnat to thank him for helping me to built such an archive.

Toledo is a special hand manufactured fountain pen from a 18 carat gold or silver. It requires high craftmanship skills so that it can only be produced 200 pieces a month. Actually the production method of this fountain pen goes back to thousands of years, Damascus stell craft. This techique traveled to Spain via Arabs so the name of the pen comes from the city of Toledo in Spain.

It is possible to comprehend and appreciate the beauty and the exquisite craftmanship.

Pelikan Toledo comes with a nice, elegant box worth its beauty. However, I have to say, we expect such nice pen boxes for other Pelikan pens too.

Toledo has a 18 carat gold nib on board. This pen has it Oblique Medium size.

Writing with this pen is a sure pleasure. The nib is quite smooth and wet as in other Pelikan pens. However, it is a bit heavy due to engravings on it. Nearly 40 gr weight makes you feel it after a while. The price of this "piece of art pen" is about 1400 USD (Amazon and E-Bay prices)

Benim de sıklıkla alışveriş yaptığım Cult Pens Kaweco ile işbirliğine giderek yeni bir dolmakalem yapmış. Bu dolmakalemi yaparken aşağıdaki niteliklerden hareket ettiklerini belirtmişler.

* Küçük ve ince olmalı ki, cebimize, ajandalardaki kalem takma halkalarına girsin ama rahat yazacak kadar da büyük olsun.

Yukarıdaki bu maddeler Cult Pens'in bu kalemi tasarlarken düşüdükleri. Ben şahsen kendi adıma piston mekanizmalı, orta boy kalemleri daha çok sevsem de, seyahatlerde taşımak adına ufak ve kartuşlu kalemler de kullanıyorum. Özellikle uçak seyahatlerinde kartuşu yanıma ayrıca alıp, gittiğim yerde kaleme takıp, tekrar uçağa bineceğim zaman da çıkartıp atıyorum. Böylelikle uçakta kalemimin akıp akmaması ile ilgili tasalanmıyorum.

Cult Pens, which I often shop from had a collaboration with Kaweco and produced a mini fountain pen. They think those are the main motives while designing this pen.

* It needs to be small and slim enough to fit neatly in a pocket, or in most organiser loops, but still big enough to write with comfortably.

* The barrel should be metal, so it's good and strong. If it's going to be carried around in your pocket or bag, it needs to be able to stand up to a bit of use.

* The cap should screw on - if it's going to live in your pocket or bag, you want to be sure it will stay securely capped.

* There should be a good metal pocket clip, to make it easier to carry, and to help hold it in place in organiser loops.

* The actual writing experience is still important with a small pen, so it should have a good choice of nib sizes - we don't all like the same width. The nib needs to be smooth and reliable too.

* It should use standard international cartridges, so there are always plenty of choices for ink.

Converters are always a tight fit in compact fountain pens, but it should be possible to use a compact converter, so you can use bottled ink.

All those listings are the essentials for Cult Pens for their fountain pen. For myself, I am a big fan of piston filler fountain pens in mid-size. However, I like carrying small size cartridge fountain pens while I am travelling. Especially when I travel with plae, I take the cartridge with me, install it after I land and throw it away before I get in the plane back. Therefore, I don't need to worry about any possible leakage.

Bir süredir Mürekkepliler postu yapmıyordum. Bu sefer bu postu yapmamın sebebi sık sık gelen sorulardan bir tanesi. Pilot 78G veya Pilot Metropolitan almak isteyenler, bu kalemleri sadece Japon mürekkepleri ile kullanmaları gerektiğinden endişe ediyorlar. Eskiden ben de bu kalemlerin J. Herbin, Diamine, Pelikan Edelstein gibi mürekkeplerde iyi performans vermeyeceğini düşünüyordum. Ancak denemek suretiyle yanıldığımı anladım. Yazım keyfinin kalem, kağıt ve mürekkebin bir kombinasyonu olduğunu unutmayın :)

I haven't been posting Currently Inked for a while. But this time I have a reason to do it since I receive a lot of questions about using non-Japanese inks in Japanese pens like Pilot 78G and Pilot Metropolitan. (Sorry for the photograph btw) I used to think that those pens will not be performing well with non-Japanese inks such as J. Herbin, Diamine or Pelikan Edelstein. Trying it, I learned that those pens can also perform with those mentioned inks. I used 78G and Metropolitan with those inks and I haven't confronted with any problems. But it should be noted that, not every ink is the same even though produced within the same brand. Some inks might be subtile while the others are a bit thicker or some might perform wet while others performs dry. Please remember that, writing pleasure is a combination of pen, ink and paper :)

paperblanks defterler, Türkiye'de pek çok kırtasiyede bulunuyor ve eminim renkli ve çeşit çeşit kapaklarıyla pek çok kırtasiye severin ilgisini çekiyor. Ben uzunca bir süre, kapakları bu kadar güzelse, kağıdı kötü olmalı diyerek kendimi paperblanks defterlerden uzak tuttum. Hatta hediye gelen iki adet paperblanks defterimi de uzun süre kullanmadım. Ne kadar yanıldığımı, aşağıda blogger'ın azizliğine uğrayarak ters dönmüş fotoğraflarımdan görebileceğinizi tahmin ediyorum.

Bu defteri gerçekten ıslak kalemlerle denedim. Montblanc No:32, Faber Castell Ambition, Pelikan M400 Broad pek çok kağıdın anasını ağlatacak kadar ıslak kalemler.

Oysa fotoğrafta gördüğünüz üzere çok çok az miktarda bir gölgelenme dışında herhangi bir kırçıllanma, arkaya geçme yapmadı.

paperblanks defterlerin kapakları oldukça özel. Her bir seri ayrı bir kültürden, sanat eserinden ya da bendeki Gutenberg İncil'i serisinde olduğu gibi dünyayı değiştiren bir kitaptan esinlenmiş. Yeri gelmişken bahsedelim, Gutenberg İncili'nin özelliği dünyanın ilk büyük basılı kitabı olduğunun kabulünde yatar. Şu anda dünya üzerinde sadece 48 tane mevcuttur ancak bunların sadece 21 tanesi eksiksiz kopyalardır. (Vikipedi'de Gutenberg İncili maddesi yok, ilginç değil mi?)

paperblanks defterlerin kapakları özenli, güzel, kağıtları harika. Tek korkutucu yanı fiyatları olabilir. Bu defterin fiyatı 28 lira civarında ancak daha büyük boylar en pahalısı 58-55 civarı olmak üzere, kapağına göre büyük boylarını 33-40 lira arasına almak da mümkün. Belki market listesi tutmak için biraz pahalı ama yıllar sonra açıp sayfalarına ve anılara bakmak için güzel bir defter olduğuna inanıyorum.

paperblanks notebooks are widely available in Turkey in many stationery stores and they draw attention of many stationery lovers with their vivid and beautiful covers. For a long while I avoided having one assuming that since the covers are that great the paper should be a waste, such that I didn't use two paperblanks notebooks which were a gift to me. And I realized how much I was wrong about them, after I used. You can see the results from the photos which fall victim to blogger and rotated :/

I tested paperblanks with quite wet-writing pens such as Montblanc No:32 broad, Faber-Castell Ambition and Vintage Pelikan M400 Broad. Those pens normall ruins many types of paper.

However, as you can see, there is minimum show-through and no feathering or nor bleeding on the paper despite all those wet pens.

And I have to say, covers of paperblanks notebooks are great. Every series are inspired by a culture, an art work or as in my Gutenberg Bible notebook a game-changing book. By the way I have to say (although many of you already knows about it) the importance of Gutenberg Bible lies in the acceptance on that it is the first printed major book in the world. There has been only 48 copy of it around the world, while only 21 of them are complete copies.

Covers are great, paper is great. The only intimidating thing about paperblanks notebooks can be the price. This one is 28 TL (app 14 USD) If you go for the biggest sizes, changing upon the cover price range starts from 55 TL (27,5 USD) and goes down to 33-40 TL (17-20 USD) Maybe it is a bit pricy to keep grocery list but sure a great choice to keep it and turn the pages after years.

Nerede o eski dolmakalemler diyenler var mı içinizde? Ben diyorum. Hele de böyle kullanılmamış, kutusuyla muhafaza edilmiş, gıcır gıcır bir dolmakalemi gördüğümde... Dolmakalem terminolojisinde New Old Stock, NOS olarak geçen eski ama kullanılmamış bu dolmakalemler koleksiyonerler için bir nimet. Kalem yine Turgay bey'in koleksiyonundan.

Pelikan'ın şimdiki düz lacivert kutularının aksine, üzerinde kalemin resmini barındıran, karton ama sempatik bir kutusu ve altında garanti belgesi var. Açıkçası, Pelikan'ın mevcut kutularındansa bu kutuyu tercih ederim.

Ucu, tek ton, Fine. Ancak ucun en güzel özelliği esnek olması kanaatimce. Eski Pelikan'ları yeni Pelikan'lardan ayıran en önemli şey uç esnekliği bence. Zira, dolum sistemi hatta gövde şekli ve renkleri bile uzun yıllardır değişmeden korunuyor. Oysa eski Pelikan'ların uçları çok esnek ve muhteşem bir yazım keyfi sağlıyor.

Ben bu kalemle yazarken inanılmaz keyif aldım ve gerçekten her dolmakalemsever'in bir adet vintage Pelikan'ı olması gerektiğine inanıyorum. Sizin eski kalemleriniz var mı?

Are there any one missing "those golden days" of fountain pens? I do! Especially when it is such a beauty, unused, kept with its box. In fountian pen terminology it is referred as NOS, New Old Stock. And for fountain pen collectioner's they have a great value. This fountain pen is also from the collection of Mr. Turgay.

It comes with a simple cardbox, bearing a graphic image of the pen on it and a guarantee document beneath. Actually, I prefer this plain box over Pelikan's present dark blue boxes.

The nib is single tone, Fine. But the most remarkable feature of the pen is flexibility. I think it is the main difference with modern Pelikan's and vintage ones, as the filling mechanism, shape of the body and colors remain quite the same. But the vintage Pelikan's has great flex nibs which provides a wonderfull writing pleasure.

I really enjoyed writing with this pen and I believe every penthusiast should have a vintage Pelikan fountain pen. Do you have vintage pens?

Rhodia ve Clairefontaine defterler, dolmakalemlerle yakından ilgilenen pek çok insanın radarında. Perdahlı, 80-90 gramlık kağıtları ve noktalı seçeneği ile oldukça seviliyor. Uzun zamandır, yurt sınırları içinde Rhodia'nın kareli defterlerinden başkasını bulmak mümkün değildi. Geçenlerde mutad kitapçı ziyaretlerimden birinde D&R'a girip kocaman Rhodia standı görünce epeyce şaşırdım. Hatta yanında bir de büyük Clairefontaine standı görünce şaşkınlığım ikiye katlandı.

Kendime bir A5 siyah çizgili (90 gr) defter aldım. Fotoğrafta fiyatı okunmuyor, 14 lira idi. Bir adet turuncu çizgili notepad, fotoğrafta görmediğiniz 80 gramlık siyah kapalı dotpad (sanırım 18 lira civarındaydı) ve kırmızı kapalı 90 gram kağıda sahip çizgili Clairefontaine defteri alıp çıktım.

Şimdi gelelim kimler postları sonuna kadar okuyor testine :) Önümüzdeki haftasonu, yani tam tarihi ile ayın 14'ünde Ankara'da olacağım. Mail ile irtibatta olduğum bir kaç dolmakalemseverle buluşmak niyetim var bir aksilik olmazsa. Yakında buradan detayları duyuracağım ama şimdilik önümüzdeki hafta Kızılay - Tunalıhilmi civarlarında bir buluşma olacağı ile ilgili haberi buradan vereyim istedim. Ne dersiniz? A lot of fountain pen enthusiasts are interested in Rhodia and Clairfontaine notebooks. With their glossy 80-90 gr paper quality, they have been preferred by penthusiasts. However, in Turkey it was not possible to find any Rhodia or Clairefontaine other than graph papers. Therefore I was quite shocked when I see those huge Rhodia and Clairefontaine stands in D&R (a local bookstore chain)

I got a black A5 Rhodia line notebook with 90 gr paper (7 USD), an orange lined notepad 80 gr paper, (7 USD), a red A4 lined Clairefontaine with 90 gr paper (4 USD) and a black A5 dotpad from Rhodia with 80 gr paper (should be about 9-10 USD).

By the way, I will be in Ankara for the next weekend, to be more specific on September 14, Saturday. I have some fountain pen enthusiasts in touch and we are planning a small meeting with them. You are more than welcome if you are available in Ankara for next Saturday :)

Herkese yeni haftadan merhabalar!

Blogda aldığım en büyük serzenişlerden bir tanesi de dolmakalem dışındaki kalem çeşitlerine az yer ayırıyor oluşum. Evet ben dolmakalemleri seviyorum ama bazen pratik olmak adına rollerball kalemlerin de hayat kurtardığını biliyorum. Bu yüzden bugün yine Turgay Bey'in koleksiyonundan Pelikan R450'yi sizinle paylaşmak istiyorum.

Kalem gördüğünüz gibi oldukça şık. M450 isimli dolmakalemin, roller versiyonu. Burada ufak bir parantez açalım; M450, M400'ün aynısı olmakla birlikte kapağı ve piston topuzu altın kaplama versiyonu. Bu da M450'nin rollerball olanı. Daha önce rollerball ve tükenmez kalem arasındaki farkı açıkladığım yazı için, buraya tıklayabilirsiniz.

R450 yine bir Pelikan klasiği olarak Pelikan logo baskılı kapağı ve tortoiseshell gövdesi ile geliyor.

Üzerindeki kapağı söktüğünüzde roller yedeğini çıkartabiliyorsunuz. Benim incelediğim kalemdeki yedek broad yani kalın uçlu idi. Pelikan bu yedekleri Fine, Medium ve Broad olmak üzere üç seçenekle sağlıyor. Yazım kalitesi gerçekten güzel. Blogger yine fotoğrafları ters çevirdiğinden ekleyemedim ama dileyenler facebook sayfamızdan yazı örneğini görebilirler.

Hi everyone! I wish you a great week

One of the main complaints I receive about the blog is that I don't make enough reviews for other pens than fountain pens. Yes I do love fountain pens but sometimes, to be more practical we need rollerballs. Yes they save lives. Therefore, I would like to share Pelikan R450 with you from Mr. Turgay's collection. (Again :p)

As you can see it is quite elegant. It is the roller version of M450 fountain pen. By the way, M450 is same pen with M400 except the golden cap and golden piston knob. And this pen is the roller version of M450 fountain pen. You can check my post where I explained the difference between rollerball and ballpoint.

R450 comes with Pelikan logo pressed on top and with a tortoiseshell body.

When you unscrew the top knob, you can take out the refill. The refill in my pen was a broad. Pelikan provides those refills in Fine, Medium and Broad. And I think it writes quite smooth. I couldn't add a photo since blogger keeps rotating the photos but you can see the writing sample from our facebook page.

There is quite little time left for Ankara gathering. I am really excited. As I was in the first gathering... Tonight I am heading off to another city right before Ankara. Therefore, there might be a delay on publihsing the comments.

Fark ettim ki, dolmakalem dünyasında epey tanınıyor olsa da, benim en çok ihmal ettiğim markalardan biri Cross. Bunun sebebi altın ve gümüş ağırlıklı tasarımlarının beni etkilememiş olması olabilir. Cross'un zincir kırtasiyelerde sıklıkla bulunabilen bu ajandası da özellikle istek alıyordu. Ancak fiyatlarının yüksekliği sebebiyle salt denemek için almak istememiştim. İmdadıma yine Turgay Bey yetişti, kendisine hediye gelmiş Cross ajandayı, incelemem için bana iletti sağolsun.

Ajandayı ıslak sayılabilecek iki dolmakalem ve kuru yazan iki keçe uçlu kalemle denedim. Platinum Century Bourgogne Broad (Iroshizuku Yama-Budo), Sailor Professional Gear Naginata Togi (Sailor siyah kartuş), Dong-A Hexaplus Fineliner (adından da anlaşılacağı gibi ucu oldukça ince) ve 0.4 uçlu Faber Castell Ecco Pigment.

Neticede, Platinum Century dışında arkaya geçen kalem olmadı ama hafif bir gölge yaptı diğer kalemler. Bu arada, fark ettiniz mi bilmiyorum, sayfaların kenarı perforeli. Yani her sayfayı ayrı ayrı, defterin cildini zedelemeden koparma şansınız var. Bence iyi fikir.

Yine benim çok önem verdiğim bir arka cep meselesi var. Ve evet Cross ajandanın arka cebi körüklü. Böylelikle kartları, faturaları, ufak not kağıtlarını içeri tıkıştırmak mümkün.

Cross ajanda yanında bir adet tükenmez kalemle birlikte geliyor. Bu arada merak edenler için belirtelim, deri değil, deri görünümlü ancak işçiliği oldukça güzel bir ajanda. Fiyatı 70-90 TL arasında değişiyor. Ben şahsen beğendim ama bu fiyata satın alır mıyım, hala kararsızım.

I noticed that, even though it is a very popular brand in fountain pen market, I ignored Cross brand too much. I think, I am not very impressed by their golden or silver fountain pen designs. However, this journal of Cross which can be found easily on chain stationery stores, were asked a lot to me. Yet, I did not want to buy it just to review since it is not very cheap. Mr. Turgay, thanks to him, handed this journal to me for a review.

I tried this journal with two wet fountain pens and two fine felt tip pens. Platinum Century Bourgogne Broad with Iroshizuku Yama-Budo, Sailor Professional Gear Naginata Togi with Sailor black vartridge, Dong-A Hexaplus Fineliner and Faber-Castell 0.4 Ecco Pigment pen.

At the end there is no bleed-through except Platinum Century but the other pens has a bit shadowing. By the way, I don't know if you noticed but the pages are perforated. So you can tear every single page without damaging the spine of the notebook. I think it is a good idea.

And there is this folding pocket thing that I care a lot. If it is not folding, then it is useless. But this one is folding so you can tuck in your small notes, invoices and papers.

Cross Journal comes with a ballpoint pen. By the way, let me tell for who is wondering, it is not genuine leather. However, the craftsmanship is nice and detailed. The price changes between 35-45 USD. I think I liked the journal but I am not sure if I would buy it within this price range or not.
